Last week, we’ve managed to put Inter-Actief on the map with the symposium ecomputing. With over 170 visitors, 23 lecturers and 16 sessions, the event was a great success and one of the biggest symposiums of the study association. In this context, ‘we’ is the symposium committee of Inter-Actief, namely Jarmo van Lenthe, Niek Tax, Rick van Galen and Renske Vermolen, presided by the undersigned.
The event went like clockwork and stress wasn’t required at all. Everything was fixed before the event, although we didn’t do much the days before either. There are some points for improvement, but overall it was great to organize something like this.
The days after Wednesday were quiet. Until now. Several hours ago, the General Members Assembly of Inter-Actief started. After several items on the agenda, the (at that time) current board discharged, to make place for a new board consisting of Rick van Galen, Jarmo van Lenthe, Sandra Drenthen, Jurriën Wagenaar, Niek Tax and … me! We are successfully installed and after handling our very own policy plan, we’re officially the 31st board of study association Inter-Actief! As a board member, I’ll be responsible for dealing with educational issues (e.g. complaints about lectures or exams). Furthermore, among other things, I’ll supervise our yet-to-determine symposium committee for organizing the symposium of 2010.
All of this went quite fast and I’m still stunned with the (relative) easiness we became a board of this association. I’m not saying we’re incapable, but I’ve always seen previous boards as a awesome, capable and profound club of people. For instance, Ruud Oude Maatman, the supervisor of ‘my’ symposium committee, always knew what to do next and assisted us in work and deed. I really can’t imagine why I’ve been selected to be part of the next board, as I don’t know how to be an awesome, capable and profound board member and assist ‘my’ committees with their work. I just don’t feel awesome enough to complete my tasks like the previous boards did.
That being said, I’ll do my uttermost to be such a board member and it’ll sort itself out. I trust the current board that their perception of me and my board members is right and that we’re indeed going to be capable, awesome and profound. Maybe we already are and I just didn’t notice yet.
It’s going to be a great year and we’ll manage it.
