It’s quite notable that, since October 10, 2010 (10-10-10) the highest hill of the Netherlands has changed. And, if you don’t know what happened on that day, you could imagine that some people (students probably) must have built another hill next to the Vaalserberg (the highest point until the 10th), but just a bit higher. Or, someone must have thought it was fun to get his shovel and begun digging the Vaalserberg down.

None of this is true, however. At the 10th, the Netherlands Antilles were dissolved and Saba became a special municipality of the Netherlands. Mount Scenery, a potentially active volcano and with an elevation of 877 meters, became the highest point of the Netherlands that day.

This is all quite interesting, but, like a good introduction to a story should, it has just a small relation to this post. About a year ago, I posted how I had become ‘capable, awesome and profound‘ at October 13, 2009 1:02 am. Me and my fellow board members became ‘highest hill’ of study association Inter-Actief for the next year.

That year is now over. Yesterday, October 12, 2010, at 10:45 pm, my journey ended and we handed our position over to the 32nd board of Inter-Actief. I have the full confidence that this board can become as capable, awesome and profound as we were.

At one hand, I’m glad it’s all over. Most of the by me supported committees had their pressure of work at the end of the year, and not everything went that well in all of those committees, so my  energy was quite used in the past few weeks. Furthermore, at this point I’m not quite sure what I would learn from performing my duties any longer; I wouldn’t call it ‘rut’, but many tasks became such a routine that it’s good that my year ended at its height.

At the other, dominating, hand however, I’m (now already) thinking back wistfully about the past year. When I woke up this morning, I had an almost-empty mailbox and there was nothing board-ish to do for me. Furthermore, when I look at the website of Inter-Actief, I see just a few committees left in my profile – the committees I took place in more then a year ago. It’s hard to let go of all of it, but I think I’ll manage.

In the following months, I won’t become bored, as I’m still in the website and education committees of Inter-Actief and, starting next week, will be working sixteen hours a week at Antagonist. Oh, and of course, I’ll be resuming my study computer science. Enough done, but enough left to do.

I would like to wish the new board of Inter-Actief the best of luck with being the new highest hill of the association.
